European Trams

Utrecht, Holland

The Utrecht sneltram is a light rail scheme in the Dutch city of Utrecht. The sneltram light rail system was constructed during the late 1970s and early 1980s, and the first sections - between Utrecht city centre and the suburb of Nieuwegein - opened to passengers on 17 December 1983. A second branch of the line, to IJsselstein, opened 14 December 1985.

A portion of the line in the city centre was closed in 2013 due to construction at Utrecht Centraal station and is set to reopen within a few years. By 2018, a new branch east to Uithof is proposed to open.
